The crisis has highlighted the importance of local capacity and capability. If you don't support local manufacturing when the times are good, you won't have access to local expertise to support you when the times are bad. Champion Australian industry and manufacture locally, as our industry works to support us.

The value of Australian-made has lost some impact in recent decades, as we trend deeper towards globalisation. Notwithstanding the benefits of a global economy, this unprecedented challenge we face has reminded us of the importance and value in producing in Australia, for Australia.

Our local stainless steel industry constantly works to enable our most essential industries and everyday needs; food manufacturing and distribution, medical and healthcare, resources, chemicals and many more. The quality, skill and reliability of local fabricators, suppliers and project deliverers is never more important than now as considerable efforts are made to make daily life as normal as possible.

Champion Australian industry and manufacture locally, as our industry works to support us.

Announcement: PacRim Stainless 2020

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian Stainless Steel Development Association (ASSDA) and its Board of Directors have come to the disappointing but necessary decision to cancel this year’s PacRim Stainless conference, including the Australian Industry Stainless Steel Supplier and Fabricator Awards 2020, which was due to be held 14 and 15 October at QT Gold Coast.

While we are still five months out from the event, the prevailing uncertainty, travel restrictions and financial risk to the Association deemed it necessary to make the call now. Our overall health and wellbeing are of utmost importance, and in the meantime we will explore some opportunities to deliver industry presentations online.

As a result of this year's conference cancellation, we have transferred our event contract to new dates next year, and we are pleased to share that PacRim Stainless 2021 (including the Australian Industry Stainless Steel Supplier and Fabricator Awards) will be held on 20 and 21 October, 2021 at QT Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

We look forward to seeing you all on the other side, and brining our industry network back together to celebrate the innovation and excellence in Australian stainless steel supply, design and fabrication.

If you have any questions with relation to PacRim Stainless, please do not hesitate to contact us on 07 3220 0722 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Stay well, be safe, and we appreciate your ongoing support.

ASSDA receives ISSF Stainless Industry Award

The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) hosted its Stainless Industry Awards online yesterday, and we are excited and proud to announce that ASSDA received a Silver Award for Best New Development for the Murray Irrigation PIIOP Round 3 Project.

Murray Irrigation's Private Irrigation Infrastructure Operator Program (PIIOP) Round 3 in New South Wales is a modernisation project focused on upgrading larger infrastructure within the main canals of its irrigation assets, including Mulwala and Wakool Canals. For more information, please click here.

This project showcased the successful use of stainless steel in delivering effective infrastructure to achieve water savings and secure a sustainable environment and future for irrigation communities in Australia. While not necessarily a new stainless steel application, this is an excellent example of materials substitution that can be well promoted globally with strong potential for influencing similar infrastructure in other markets.

Congratulations and thank you to all ASSDA Members involved:

This Award puts ASSDA and Australia on the stainless steel world map and is a testament to the capability and innovation of our Members and local industry.

Please see the following link for the full list of winners and projects: https://www.worldstainless.org/news/issf-announces-winners-of-the-stainless-industry-awards-in-a-webinar/.

We encourage all ASSDA Members to keep us up-to-date with your stainless steel projects, for potential publication in Australian Stainless Magazine and future award submissions.

ASSDA and COVID-19

The impact of COVID-19 is being felt by everyone.

The health and wellbeing of our staff is our priority, and in following the advised precautionary measures to help stop the spread, the ASSDA team is now all working remotely from home until further notice. All travel has been suspended or cancelled, and face-to-face interaction minimised.

While our working arrangements may have changed, ASSDA will continue to support the local industry as best we can. We are currently drumming up a new Australian Stainless magazine for distribution, a new and updated Stainless Steel Stock Guide for the industry 11 years after its last release, and we continue to present monthly educational webinars on various stainless steel topics.

The Stainless Steel Specialist Course is delivered online, and for those of you who are off the road and now online, this may be an opportunity for you to upskill and brush up on your stainless steel knowledge. All ASSDA Members are entitled to a number of free enrolments depending on your level of membership. Accept our new normal for the time being, adapt, take the opportunity to innovate and aim to emerge stronger on the other side.

Stay well, be safe, and we appreciate your ongoing support.
