About the webinar:
Ferritics account for about 25% of stainless steel use worldwide, but their advantages and limitations are not well known compared to the austenitic family. They range from the barely 12% chromium grades through to super ferritics capable of handling seawater. Most commonly used in sheet form up to 3mm, ferritic stainless steels are formable, similar to carbon steel. Welding, especially of older grades is difficult, and even modern grades require care and greater cleanliness.
This webinar will cover the following topics with multiple illustrations:
- What is ferritic stainless steel and why they are different
- The groupings of ferritic materials
- Typical physical and chemical properties
- Cutting and forming
- Welding and the specific precautions required
- Temperature limitations
- A brief look at the high carbon, martensitic sub-family
