ASSDA Webinar: Stainless steel materials selection for potentially corrosive environments

Technical questions to ASSDA often start with a very general question about what stainless steel grade could be used for a particular pH, bore water, factory waste water, a facade... Pick one or more! The ensuing discussion either reveals the required details of the environment or a more thorough search for historical information of even new measurements.

Three generic cases will be considered with examples of where mistakes could be made.

  1. Seawater splashing and/or immersion - with some consideration of tidal rivers
  2. Atmospheric exposure in various locations mainly using the IMOA/ASSDA point scores but with reference to the corrosivity classifications in ISO, the "brick tie" code and others. This includes architectural and industrial applications
  3. First principles analysis of selection for a mixed process waste or product stream - including the composition, temperature, flow, duration, required lifetime, possible enhancements of the stainless surface, etc.

This webinar is intended to provide guidance to material and surface condition choices. It cannot be prescriptive as combinations of factors can change the exposure from benign to aggressive or vice versa. It also is NOT a substitute for professional advice in complex situations.

Presenter: Dr Graham Sussex, Technical Specialist
Graham is a materials expert with over 30 years experience and more than 600 technical publications to his name. Stainless steel is his specialty.
