THE STAINLESS EDGE: Using Stainless Steel to Maximum Effect

The use of stainless steel in design and fabrication is growing, due to its impressive appearance, corrosion resistance and strength, as well as its life-cycle costing advantages. But should the material just be reserved for extreme applications or also considered simply as a highlight of good design?

ASSDA will present this 2 hour seminar at the Australian Institute of Architects in South Brisbane. The seminar takes a practical approach to design aspects that need to be considered when designing with stainless steel to ensure the best result for the project. It will cover stainless steel grades and finishes and how to improve specifications so that designs have the 'stainless edge'. 

Attendees will walk away with an improved understanding of the material and its vast emerging applications within the built environment.

Stainless steels in marine infrastructure

ASSDA ran a half-day seminar in Darwin in July, providing practical advice on specifying the appropriate grade and surface finish of stainless steel for specific marine applications, including in marine atmospheres, tidal zones, submerged use, and concrete reinforcement.

Preventing Coastal Corrosion (Tea Staining) of Stainless Steel 

ASSDA recently ran this half-day seminar in Adelaide and Perth, providing a practical guide to preventing coastal corrosion (tea staining) of stainless steel. The seminar covered a range of topics including:

• what is tea staining and what causes it?
• watch a practical demonstration of it forming
• how to specify your way out of it
• how it can be prevented
• if it is already occurring, how it can be fixed
• what are some sample clauses you can include in your specification?
  

Stainless Steel in Civil Construction

Successful use of stainless steel in the food industry

ASSDA has recently run a half day workshop in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, providing a practical guide to stainless steel in the food, dairy and beverage industry. The seminar covered a range of topics including stainless steel properties, finish requirements, the effects of cleaning regimes on design, and fabrication and welding of stainless steel.

ASSDA recently ran a seminar series entitled “Stainless Steel in the Water Industry”.  The seminar looked at the exposure conditions and their effects on the typical (and possibly new) stainless steels in use in the water industry, with emphasis on how to treat this premium material to get the best possible performance.
